Asylum Seekers | IMC turns to ConCourt for guidance: Advocate Nevondwe weighs in

The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Migration will now turn to the Constitutional Court to seek a supervisory order to guide implementation of the apex court's ruling on fair access to the refugee system. In addition, a parallel process will unfold at the Gauteng High Court. It will establish at the end of October, legal certainty on how to approach asylum seekers who are detained, and intend to apply. The issue is whether they should first be released, or should they apply from the detention centre. This as protests over undocumented migration continue to grow in parts of the country.
