Google Pixel 7a to 11a - 5 Generations Compared
Five generations of Google's budget flagship, all compared side by side: Pixel 7a, 8a, 9a, 10a and the upcoming 11a. If you're wondering how much the A-series has actually improved over the years, or trying to decide which generation makes sense for your budget right now, this comparison lays it out clearly.
A quick note before we start: the Pixel 11a has not been officially released yet. It's expected to launch in Spring 2027, and everything about it right now comes from leaks, not confirmed specifications. We'll clearly mark every 11a detail as rumored throughout this video, so you know exactly what's confirmed and what isn't.
What we compare across all 5 phones:
Chipset and performance: This is where the biggest story is. The lineup moves from Tensor G2 on the Pixel 7a, to Tensor G3 on the 8a, to Tensor G4 on both the 9a and 10a, and then jumps straight to the rumored Tensor G6 on the 11a, skipping a generation entirely. We break down what this means for real world speed, gaming, and how long each phone stays smooth over time.
Display: Screen size grows from 6.1 inches on the earlier models to 6.3 inches on the 9a, 10a and rumored 11a. Peak brightness also climbs significantly across generations, and we cover what that means for outdoor visibility and everyday use.
Battery and charging: Battery capacity jumps from around 4385mAh on the 7a up to 5100mAh from the 9a onward, with charging speed improving from 18W on the older models to 30W on the newer ones. The 11a is rumored to keep a similar battery and charging setup, though this is not yet confirmed.
Build quality: Water and dust resistance improves across the lineup, moving from IP67 on the earlier models up to IP68 on the 10a. We'll note what's expected for the 11a based on current leaks.
Camera setup: We look at how the main and ultrawide camera sensors have evolved across generations, and whether newer models actually deliver a noticeably better photo experience or mostly similar results with different processing.
Software and updates: How many years of OS and security updates each generation gets, which matters a lot if you're buying an older model today and want it to last.
Who this video is for:
If you own an older Pixel A-series phone and are wondering whether it's worth upgrading, or if you're trying to decide whether to buy a current model now or wait for the 11a, this video walks through exactly what's changed generation by generation so you're not guessing. This isn't about declaring one phone the best, it's about understanding what you actually get at each step up, and what's worth waiting for versus what's hype.
A reminder on the 11a section: specifications for the Pixel 11a mentioned in this video are based on leaks and industry reporting, not official Google announcements. These numbers may change, and some could turn out to be inaccurate once Google officially unveils the phone. We're including it because the pattern across previous generations gives a reasonably reliable picture, but treat all 11a details as a preview, not a confirmed spec sheet.
