Two factions of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have issued separate statements distancing themselves from speculation that the organization is sheltering Sen. Bato Dela Rosa, who is being sought by authorities. In a statement on Friday, October 30, the MNLF faction led by Muslimin Sema said there was no established formal relationship between Dela Rosa and the organization, adding that claims he may be hiding with an armed group in Mindanao were unverified. The faction noted that Dela Rosa had discussed the MNLF in the context of the armed conflict in Marawi, where he was a student, and had supported programs for former combatants and their children. It also cited his advocacy for the faster integration of qualified Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and MNLF members into the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. However, it stressed that these interactions did not establish a personal or organizational alliance with the senator.Meanwhile, the MNLF faction led by founding chairman Nur Misuari, in a statement on Thursday, October 29, disowned social media statements circulating under the names of Misuari and the organization concerning Dela Rosa and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.The faction said the unauthorized use of Misuari's name, image, and leadership to promote unverified political narratives was an attempt to misrepresent the MNLF's position and exploit its influence for propaganda purposes. It also warned against misinformation that could fuel political divisions, provoke tensions, and undermine the peace process in Mindanao. Both statements called for responsible reporting and verification of information as the MNLF factions sought to clarify their respective positions amid speculation surrounding Dela Rosa.
