We're leaving Shanghai and taking China's famous bullet train to Beijing for the first time! 🇨🇳 From navigating the Shanghai metro with Alipay and racing to catch our train to ordering food directly to our train car, this ended up being quite the travel day. We start the morning in Shanghai using Alipay for the metro before noticing something that is a constant every time you use the metro: X-ray security machines. After talking about some of the security and surveillance we've noticed while traveling through China, we realize we're running late and need to hurry if we're going to make our train to Beijing. Thankfully, we make it! We board the high-speed bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing and quickly realize how different the train system is from what we're used to. There are no physical train tickets. Instead, our passports are essentially our tickets, which Sierra explains once we're onboard. Then we attempt something even more interesting: ordering lunch to be delivered DIRECTLY to our train car while traveling through China. After struggling our way through the ordering process, we explore the food car and pick up some crab crackers for the journey. A few hours later, we officially arrive in Beijing for the FIRST TIME... although our introduction to the city doesn't go exactly as planned. 😂 From the train station, we make our way to the China World Hotel, Beijing, a Shangri-La hotel, where we'll be staying during our time in the city. We check out our room and hotel before heading out for one of the foods we've been most excited to try in Beijing. PEKING DUCK! 🦆🇨🇳 For our first proper meal in Beijing, we visit Xiheyayuan to try the city's famous Peking duck and see if it lives up to the hype. Finally, after a massive travel day from Shanghai to Beijing and already eating one dinner, we somehow end up having a SECOND dinner in the business lounge back at our hotel. This is officially the beginning of our Beijing adventure! If you're planning a trip to China or wondering what it's actually like taking the bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing, hopefully this video gives you a look at the entire experience, from using the Shanghai metro and navigating China's train stations to riding the high-speed rail, arriving in Beijing, staying at a luxury hotel, and trying authentic Peking duck.
