Skiing El Colorado in the Chilean Andes! 🇨🇱 In this video I spend a full day exploring El Colorado and Farellones, one of the classic ski areas high above Santiago, Chile. We start at the El Colorado base area before heading up the mountain and eventually skiing all the way down toward Farellones. From there, the day turns into a full exploration of the resort — groomers, surface lifts, huge open bowls, ridgelines, rocky technical terrain, the terrain park, Valle Olímpico and some incredible views looking back toward Santiago. El Colorado has a really unique layout. The mountain wraps around the volcanic-looking cone above Farellones, with a combination of chairlifts and traditional surface lifts accessing everything from beginner terrain to wide-open advanced and expert skiing. One of my favorite parts of skiing in Chile was experiencing how heavily these resorts still use surface lifts. They can access steep terrain efficiently while keeping the mountain feeling much less developed than many large North American resorts. We also ski down toward Farellones, the historic mountain village below El Colorado. Skiing between the different elevations and seeing how Farellones connects into the surrounding mountain makes this one of the more interesting resort layouts I've experienced. El Colorado also has several places to eat around the mountain, including El Refugio, Mirador Puntilla, Mirador Ventanilla, Mirador Pizzería and Olimpo, along with quicker food-truck options. Olimpo sits high on the mountain and is a particularly cool place to stop when visibility is good. Later in the day the weather begins changing quickly around Valle Olímpico, giving us classic high-Andes flat light and fog before finishing with a few more laps as the storm moves across the mountains.
