The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended I Organ

🎵 'The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended' | Organ Performance by Manuel Böhm🎵 Today I have a recording of “The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended” for you:-) I played the movement by Clement Cotteril Scholefield on the wonderful organs in Marienstatt Abbey. The melody of the hymn was published in 1874 by Arthur Sullivan in a collection of hymns and was used for this hymn from the very beginning. The melody was written by the Anglican clergyman and composer Clement Cotteril Scholefield (1839-1904). The original text was written by the Anglican clergyman and songwriter John Ellerton (1826-1893). The verses first appeared in print in 1870 in "A Liturgy for Missionary Meetings". The large organ by the Austrian organ building company "Rieger" was inaugurated in the abbey church in 1970 and is known beyond Germany for its beautiful sound(s). The organ has 73 stops, IV manuals and pedals and over 5,000 pipes and stands above the stables of the choir stalls and accompanies the daily choral prayers of the monastic community and the congregational singing. The choir organ was festively inaugurated on February 15, 2025 in the evening service and the following day in concert. It was built by the Oppel company. The abbey is worth a visit.
