There are waterfalls beneath the ocean. Not ordinary waterfalls — but enormous flows of dense seawater that can descend through the hidden landscape of the deep ocean. One of the most spectacular examples is the Denmark Strait overflow, where cold, dense water flows through the region between Greenland and Iceland and descends into the deep Atlantic. These underwater flows are part of the ocean's enormous circulation system, driven in part by differences in temperature, salinity and density. The deep ocean isn't still. It contains currents, mountains, valleys, canyons and massive flows that transport water, heat, sediment and nutrients across the planet. And some of these processes remain surprisingly difficult to observe directly. In this Curious Theory documentary, we explore how underwater “waterfalls” form, why density matters, how deep ocean circulation works, and why these hidden currents matter to Earth's climate. 🌊 The ocean has an entire world beneath its surface. 🔭 Stay curious. #DeepOcean #OceanMysteries #UnderwaterWaterfall #OceanScience #DenmarkStrait #DeepSea #EarthScience #MarineScience #OceanCurrents #ClimateScience #ScienceDocumentary #UnexplainedNature #CuriousTheory #NatureMysteries #Earth #viralvideo
