"A Doll's Life:" A Musical That Could Have Worked

"'With Hal Prince,' said Mr. Nederlander, 'you're talking about one of the theater's greatest talents – it's like going with Babe Ruth on the baseball field. I never read the script – I went with him and Comden and Green.'" Michiko Kakutani, 1982 It was the first new musical of the 1982/83 Broadway season, and it collapsed after five performances. But did audiences miss something worthwhile in this musical flop? Or, more intriguingly, did the writers miss the target they were aiming for? Zach Barr (they/them) returns to Hal Prince's famous flop "A Doll's Life," to investigate what failed then – and, hopefully, find how the show can succeed now.
