This was our biggest voyage yet: 1,000 miles north aboard King and I, our 75-foot Hatteras motor yacht.
After months of preparation and training, we were still students—setting out on a thousand-mile classroom with more left to learn than we realized.
Part One begins as we leave Stuart, Florida, and point King and I north. Along the way, the sea sends us a dolphin, tall ships wait ahead, changing weather follows us toward Port Canaveral and something unexpected surfaces beside the boat.
But this journey would become about much more than miles, weather and destinations.
It would be about the people we met along the way.
In Port Canaveral, we met the Risslers, their boat Empire and found ourselves surrounded by Hatterasses? We can't say that... we think we then discovered a secret society of fellow Hatteras owners—and found the word we had been missing:
Hatterae. Are you a Hatterae? Let us know!
Then they introduced us to SeaPeople, an app that would begin recording each leg, each stop and the long trail King and I was leaving behind her.
The route showed where we had traveled.
The people made it a journey.
This is Part One of our 1,000-mile voyage north. We hope you join us on our first leg of our maiden journey.
Welcome aboard King and I.
Dead Men Don’t Dream.
They go to sea.
