Last time I had 40 minutes before Costco closed and I ran around the whole shop. This time I arrived at 7 in the evening with an hour and a half, which is the most relaxed I have ever been in that building.
The first thing I found was a 500 dollar espresso machine. Beautiful. Expensive. I did not buy it.
Then the actual shopping. Cleaning wipes. Mandarins, oranges, a big bag of apples. Watermelon, because watermelon with grilled halloumi is one of the best things a person can eat. Ready made sushi, which I wanted the second I saw it. Hummus. Tomatoes and cucumbers. Bananas from Ecuador, slightly too green, fine. A big bag of onions. Sheep's milk laban, which I love. And a labneh with Arabic writing on the tub, made by an Arabic company, made in Canada, which I had never come across before.
Then the part I actually came for: a 6.5 kilo piece of meat. I stood there comparing pieces for a while, because this is the one aisle where I take my time.
Also one Activia, for Yasmine.
Then the queue, which was very long, and I do not like queues.
If this format is new to you: I walk around naming everything I see, slowly, so you pick up supermarket words without studying them. Clear Levantine Arabic.
