Spring is a big deal in temperate and cool climates, with wildflowers in bloom and native gardens bursting into colour. But in the vegetable patch it's a different story. This time of year is known as the Hungry Gap: winter crops are past their best and the soil is still too cold for most summer ones. While there's little to eat, there's plenty to do. In this video, Millie shows how to save seed from your best crops, work out when to harvest garlic, and prepare beds for corn, cucurbits and tomatoes without turning the soil over. 00:00 Spring Arrives 00:28 Hungry Gap 00:53 Saving Seed 01:25 Chantenay Carrots 02:44 Coriander Seed 03:01 Harvesting Garlic 04:38 Green Manure 05:37 Tomato Bed 06:30 Aerating Soil 06:54 Adding Gypsum 07:27 Shoulder Crops 📺Gardening Australia — Stream all seasons on ABC iview: https://ab.co/GardeningAustraliaiview Subscribe 🔔 http://ab.co/GA-subscribe Factsheet 📃 https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/how-...
