The rivalry between Sarkodie and Asem began in the late 2000s, building on the perceived rivalry between Accra and Tema artists. The rivalry escalated when Sarkodie and Asem took shots at each other in songs, and it went on for a couple of years, igniting the culture. In 2009, amid the rivalry between Accra and Tema artists, Sarkodie joined forces with R2bees and dropped a diss track aimed at Asem titled Tema. At the time, artists from Tema dominated the industry, so they reiterated that in the diss song. Sarkodie really went in hard to ensure his bars touched Asem. Asem responded with a song titled “No More Kpayor,” and it got Sarkodie and the whole of Tema shaking. It came as a surprise to many because Asem wasn’t known to the rapper for going at war with lyricism. Sarkodie and R2Bees hit Asem back with Fair Warning (Tema Part 2). Asem didn’t really reply to the diss but addressed it briefly on his ‘2010 Fylla’ song. Sarkodie, on the BET Hip-Hop Awards 2012 Cypher, goofed with a line is rap: the missing ingredient and Irish Cream bar. Asem released Last Fylla and trolled Sarkodie. The rap beef died down for years and was resurrected in 2020, particularly during the lockdown. Asem took shots at Sarkodie, perceiving a subliminal in Sarkodie's rap on a beat produced by Appietus. Sarkodie responded with a song titled “Sub Zero”. Afterwards, SOMETHING MAJOR happened. What really happened? Watch the video to find out more.
