A day in my life: 26 years old, no degree, no job, still single, living with my mom in a small fishing village near Cua Lo, Nghe An, Vietnam. Our house is 25 years old. The walls are full of cracks, rain seeps in, and every storm season I worry whether it will hold. My mom is over 60. She buys fish at the port before dawn and sells it at the market on her 30-year-old bicycle. Today some baby scad didn't sell, so she boiled them and dried them in the sun. We turned them into soup for lunch. I'm learning to sew scrunchies and sell them online when someone asks. Right now I earn about 1–2 million VND a month. Today's lunch for two cost us 75,000 VND: half a kilo of pork belly (60,000), greens (15,000), peanuts someone gave us, and mom's dried fish. No music, just the real sounds of our home.
