It was fifty-four years ago this week, on August 22, 1972, when John Wojtowicz became one of the most infamous bank robbers in history. His story was so unusual that it was made into a feature film a few years later – and Wojtowicz used his proceeds from the film to accomplish what he’d robbed the bank to do in the first place.
