Degritter Mark II vs Spin-Clean: Is a $3,500 Ultrasonic Record Cleaner Worth It?

Is the approximately $3,480 Degritter Mark II setup actually better than a $190 two-stage Spin-Clean system? I tested five used vinyl records and made 15 before-and-after audio comparisons to find out whether ultrasonic record cleaning removes more clicks, pops and surface noise than careful hand cleaning. Each record was first cleaned with two Spin-Clean machines—one using diluted TergiKleen and distilled water, followed by a second distilled-water rinse. I then cleaned the same records with the Degritter Mark II on its Heavy cycle. Every test was captured at 24-bit/192 kHz using a Fluance RT85 turntable and Cocktail Audio X45. I compared the recordings through direct listening, waveforms, acoustic-spectrum analysis and dynamic-range measurements. The Degritter Mark II is beautifully built and exceptionally convenient—but do its measurable cleaning results justify the enormous price difference?
