CoMA London ensemble perform ‘lava_novum’ by Mathis Saunier at CoMA Festival 2026.
'lava_novum' is a piece for ensemble, sampler keyboard, lights and audience phones. It unfolds like a slowly changing landscape of sound, built from chords that shift, grow and transform over time. Each musician is linked to a colour (red, pink, blue or turquoise). These colours appear in the lighting and help make the music visible, so that changes in harmony are also felt as changes in light and mood.
The audience also has a role to play. Using their phones, listeners can add sounds that blend into the music, so that the whole room becomes part of the piece. In this way, 'lava_novum' turns the concert into a shared experience, where sound, colour, performers and audience all become part of the same evolving environment.
World premiere, CoMA London commission
