Released: Metronome, Germany 1972 ⚡ Rare German underground rock with Hammond organ, heavy psych, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep influences. TRACKLIST 00:00 A1 Eternal Light (5.36) 05:38 A2 Mr. Joker (3.41) 09:22 A3 Past Time (9.53) 19:16 B1 Nightmare (5.31) 24:50 B2 Sad Woman (3.33) 28:26 B3 Ormuzd (7.26) Hamburg, 1969. Five musicians formed Zarathustra as German rock moved beyond the beat era. Ernst Herzner sang lead, Wolfgang Reimer played guitar, Michael Just handled bass, Klaus Werner played organ and Wolfgang Behrmann sat behind the drums. The transition from beat music was close to home. According to music historian Dag Erik Asbjørnsen, two Zarathustra members were also involved with the Hamburg beat group Why Five during 1969, a group associated with the obscure compilation Ausgerechnet Bananen. The link traces their roots to Hamburg's beat scene. The five-piece built a reputation playing clubs in and around Hamburg. In 1971, they secured a contract with Metronome. In November, Zarathustra entered Windrose Studios in Hamburg with producer Till-Matthias Landsmann and recording engineer Friedrich Bischoff. The result was six original compositions, credited on the first pressing to Herzner, Reimer and Werner. Their self-titled LP appeared in 1972, its gatefold sleeve enclosing a sound driven by guitar, forceful vocals and Werner's prominent organ. “Past Time” and “Ormuzd” stretched beyond conventional song lengths. Yet a record deal did not guarantee an audience. Despite its powerful performances, the album achieved little commercial success, and the group parted ways in 1972. Asbjørnsen later pointed to inadequate promotion by Metronome as a possible factor, although the surviving evidence does not establish a single cause for the band's disappearance. Herzner's musical path continued: in 1985 he sang with Novalis on Nach uns die Flut. Zarathustra left one studio album, a document of their brief time together in Hamburg. ______________________________ 👉 Subscribe and join Vintage Tunes for more rare and forgotten rock discoveries.    / @vassilisa109   🔎 Continue exploring:    • 💿 VT - Rare Full Albums & Forgotten LP Arc... Η Metronome, που κυκλοφόρησε τον δίσκο το 1972, είχε ανοίξει τον κατάλογό της και σε άλλα rock σχήματα, όπως οι Prof. Wolfff, Os Mundi και Made In Germany. ______________________________ LINE-UP Ernst Herzner: Lead Vocals Wolfgang Reimer: Guitar, Vocals, Percussion Michael Just: Bass, Vocals Klaus Werner: Organ Wolfgang Behrmann: Drums, Percussion ______________________________ #Zarathustra #Krautrock #HeavyProgressiveRock #GermanRock #RareRockAlbums #VintageTunes ARCHIVAL & COPYRIGHT NOTICE Vintage Tunes produces curated historical music features for educational, historical and archival purposes, combining original editorial research with digitally restored visual archives and historical documentation.
