Visiting Zion? Get the guide to 20 places I actually go, 15 of them outside the park where the crowds aren’t: www.runningwildutah.com Real dinosaur tracks and a historic pioneer fort, both a short drive from St. George, Utah. In this video I take my 4Runner down the dirt roads southeast of town to Fort Pearce, then on to a rock slab covered in dinosaur footprints you can walk right up to. Fort Pearce is a stone fort built by Mormon pioneers in [year, confirm from signage] during the Black Hawk War, and it’s one of the best preserved pieces of early Southern Utah history you can still visit. A few miles away, the dinosaur tracks were left by meat-eating theropods in the Early Jurassic, roughly [age from signage] million years ago, when this area was mud flats instead of red desert. If you’re looking for things to do in St. George, a Zion National Park day trip that skips the shuttle lines, or a family-friendly dinosaur site in Utah, this is one of the easiest half-day adventures in Southern Utah. Road conditions can be dicey if the wind is blowing or it has rained recently : high clearance recommended I’ve lived in Southern Utah for 24 years and this is one of my favorite drives to show people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ More from Running Wild Utah Guide to Zion and the places around it: www.runningwildutah.com
