Psychology Experiments That Would Be Illegal Today

Would you cut the head off a live rat if a grad student asked nicely? Two out of three people did. This countdown covers ten real psychology experiments that would never get past an ethics board today, from a baby taught to fear Santa Claus to a summer camp secretly run by researchers, a fake plane crash staged by the Army, and a CIA apartment where agents watched men on LSD through one-way mirrors. Along the way, you'll hear the twists most textbooks leave out: fake patients that may never have existed, a famous prison breakdown that was reportedly an act, and the shock experiment that still says uncomfortable things about you and me. Every story is drawn from published research, court records and investigative reporting. 00:00 No. 10 – Please Behead This Rat 01:02 No. 9 – The Army's Fake Plane Crash 02:12 No. 8 – Nurse, Please Double the Dose 03:17 No. 7 – Little Albert and Santa 04:27 No. 6 – The Secret Summer Camp 05:43 No. 5 – The Monster Study 06:54 No. 4 – The Fake Patients 08:11 No. 3 – The CIA's Acid Apartment 09:30 No. 2 – The Stanford Prison Experiment 10:47 No. 1 – Milgram's Shock Machine
