Hyundai Staria 2.2 MultiCab SA Launch

Following soon after the launch of the Staria 9 and 11 seater busses, Hyundai SA have now expanded the Staria range with the introduction of the MultiCab model. The full panel van versions will follow soon. The question is.....what is a MultiCab? I have dubbed it a Double Cab Panel Van. It has the cab taken straight from the Executive spec bus with a 3 seater bench behind the front seats. This is a high spec luxury space with leather trim, climate control, touchscreen, cruise control and all the features. It provides the ideal space for the family of 5. Behind the bench seat is a substantial bulkhead dividing the cab from the cavernous load area. Designed to take 2 Euro pallets and around 1 ton in weight. Access is through 2 side opening doors at the rear for easy loading. The MultiCab is powered by the same 2.2L 4 cylinder turbodiesel engine providing 130kW and 430Nm to the front wheels through a very smooth 8 speed automatic transmission. During the launch drive I saw a consumption figure of 7.1l/100km showing. According to the briefing, the Multicab has leaf-spring rear suspension to allow for load carrying but the on-road experience with 3 passengers and no load in the rear was extremely comfortable and smooth. This really is a vehicle that could suit deliveries or contractors that need to transport a team along with the load. It's also the perfect substitute for a double cab bakkie for adventurers or family use with van security instead of an open bak or canopy.
