Ep. 3 - Pillar 1: Multigenerational Vision (feat. Hannes & Alma du Preez)

What does it actually look like to build a family that lasts beyond one generation? In Episode 3, Rance Bland and Kevin Morrison open Pillar 1 of the Kingdom Outpost framework, Multigenerational Vision, with guests Hannes and Alma du Preez. Originally from South Africa, Hannes and Alma now live the very thing they have built for decades. Hannes and Alma both grew up in deeply dysfunctional homes, married young, and had no manual, only God’s Word and a conviction that they would not repeat what they had lived. What followed was decades of intentionality: saying no to hobbies and social calendars so they could stay fully present at home, hosting Thursday night dinners where debate and disagreement were expected, and staying relationally invested long after their kids left home. Now retired and traveling the country in a converted van, Hannes and Alma offer the vantage point Rance and Kevin are still running toward: six grandchildren, adult kids who still want to talk, and a family culture strong enough to survive the test of in-laws, distance, and time. The episode closes with a challenge that stops both hosts cold: write down God’s vision and Scripture for each of your children. Ask God for a Scripture for each child. Write it down. Psalm 127:4 frames it: “Sons are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.” But you can only shoot an arrow when you know where it needs to go, and that requires sitting with God and seeking His direction for each specific child.
