We started this cleanup mission early in the morning after discovering a sidewalk that had been completely overtaken by nature. Wild weeds had grown over 2 meters (6.5 feet) tall, making the walkway look more like a forgotten jungle than part of a city. Thick roots had already begun creeping deep into the cracks between the sidewalk tiles, slowly breaking them apart and hiding years of accumulated trash underneath. As we cut through the towering weeds, we uncovered the original sidewalk little by little. What looked impossible at first slowly transformed into a clean, safe path that people could use again. During the cleanup, a young teacher stopped to watch. She couldn't help laughing at first because the job seemed far too big to finish. But as the transformation unfolded, her smile turned into genuine surprise. Moments like these remind us why we continue cleaning public spaces for free.
