Drawing the World Flag Map using the Equal Earth projection! 🌍🏳️ This is a hand-drawn World Flag Map showing countries around the world using the **Equal Earth projection**, an equal-area map projection designed to represent the relative sizes of countries and continents more accurately. 🌎 What is the Equal Earth Projection? The Equal Earth projection was developed in 2018 by cartographers Bojan Šavrič, Tom Patterson and Bernhard Jenny. It is an equal-area projection, meaning that the relative areas of landmasses are represented correctly. Its shape was designed to remain visually pleasing while keeping countries and continents recognizable. This is important because the familiar Mercator projection greatly enlarges areas as they get farther from the Equator. As a result, countries and regions in northern and southern latitudes can appear much larger relative to equatorial regions than they actually are. Africa, for example, is about 14 times larger than Greenland, even though they can appear surprisingly similar in size on Mercator maps. 🇺🇳 A major recent development On September 4, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/80/L.104, known as the “Correct the Map” resolution. The resolution encourages governments, schools, international organizations and technology companies to use *Equal Earth and other equal-area projections* when showing the relative sizes of continents and countries. It also encourages greater awareness of the limitations of different map projections. Importantly, the resolution does not ban the Mercator projection and does not make Equal Earth a mandatory replacement. Different projections are useful for different purposes because no flat map can perfectly represent the curved surface of Earth. So in this artwork, I combine cartography, geography and the flags of the world's countries to create a World Flag Map in one of the projections receiving renewed international attention. 🌍 Projection: Equal Earth 🗺️ Map: World Map 🏳️ Artwork: World Flag Map 🎨 Style: Hand-drawn map art 🇺🇳 Recent development: UN “Correct the Map” resolution, September 2026 If you enjoy maps, flags, geography, cartography and detailed drawings, subscribe to Saad Ali Arts for more unique map artwork! #WorldFlagMap #EqualEarth #EqualEarthProjection #WorldMap #FlagMap #Geography #Cartography #MapDrawing #MapArt #unitednations 0:00 Intro 0:05 North America 6:17 South America 9:59 Antarctica 10:27 Europe 20:09 Asia 30:34 Oceania 33:47 Africa
