Who decided what books went into the Bible? Codex Sinaiticus, one of the oldest surviving Bibles, keeps going after Revelation with two more books: the Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas. So why isn’t the Shepherd of Hermas in most Bibles today? We follow how the New Testament canon actually took shape, through the words of Irenaeus, the Muratorian fragment, Eusebius, Dionysius and Athanasius’s Festal Letter of 367. No single person or council, not even the Council of Nicaea, chose one Bible for every Christian. And being preserved beside the New Testament does not prove a book was later removed.
