I ride my motorcycle straight through Mikumi National Park in Tanzania, where wild elephants, baboons and antelopes roam freely beside the road.
Leaving Morogoro on my Yamaha Ténéré 700, I head toward Mikumi and experience what it's really like to ride through an unfenced African national park. Along the way, I encounter wildlife on the highway, explore a luxury safari lodge under construction, and get an incredible view of wild elephant families roaming through the savannah.
I also learn about Tanzania's wildlife laws and the fines for harming animals on the road, discover why controlled fires are used in the savannah, and eventually set up camp at Camp Bastion.
This is another chapter of my solo motorcycle journey across Africa—a journey through Tanzania, its wildlife, roads, people and landscapes.
Would you ride a motorcycle through a national park with wild elephants just meters away? Let me know in the comments.
