If so, click here    • Explore Vienna in 4K - All Videos   Vienna is famous for its grand imperial buildings and elegant cafés, but on exceptionally hot summer days the city reveals a completely different side. Join me on this relaxing 4K walking tour through the historic heart of Vienna during one of the hottest days of June 2026. We begin our walk near the Goldenes Quartier and Graben before passing some of Vienna's most iconic landmarks, including the Pestsäule, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Kärntner Straße and the Donaukanal. Along the way you'll notice something quite unusual. Even places that are normally packed with people become surprisingly quiet as locals and visitors search for shade, drinking fountains and cooler spots near the water. One of the most interesting things about Vienna is that the historic city center can become several degrees warmer than the surrounding countryside during heatwaves. The dense stone buildings absorb heat throughout the day and slowly release it again during the evening, creating what is known as the urban heat island effect. That's one reason why drinking fountains, misting systems and green spaces have become increasingly important across the city. We also visit the Donaukanal promenade, one of Vienna's favorite places during summer. While the Danube itself flows further east, the Donaukanal has become a lively waterfront lined with cafés, bars, street art and places where people gather after work. Even on an extremely hot day you'll find plenty of life close to the water. Did you know that the Pestsäule on Graben was commissioned after the plague epidemic of 1679 and took almost two decades to complete? Or that the Badeschiff is actually a floating swimming pool built into a ship permanently moored along the Donaukanal? Small discoveries like these are what make every walk through Vienna unique. I always try to capture Vienna exactly as it is, without narration, without staged scenes, just authentic city sounds and everyday life. Sometimes the weather becomes part of the story, and today the extreme heat certainly did. Thank you for joining today's walk.
