SHIN GODZILLA: IT COMES FROM THE TAIL | Fan Film (2026)

I've been working on a new project called SHIN GODZILLA: IT COMES FROM THE TAIL, a 20-minute AI-generated fan film that continues the story following the events of Shin Godzilla (2016). The story takes place in Tokyo, where Godzilla remains frozen after the devastating events of the original film. As Japan begins recovering, news reporter Aiko and cameraman Kenji are documenting the aftermath. However, something far more terrifying is about to unfold involving the mysterious fifth forms emerging from Godzilla's tail. I've always enjoyed Shin Godzilla, especially the mystery surrounding its final evolution. I wanted to explore what could happen next and tell that story from the perspective of ordinary people caught in the middle of it. My main goal with this project was to test whether I could create my first AI short film with a budget of $500 and complete the entire project within one month. I wanted to see how far I could push the technology while applying my experience in filmmaking, storytelling, cinematography, editing, and sound design. My personal opinion on AI filmmaking is that AI can get you about 70–80% of the way there, but there's still a lot of work that needs to be done. It's not as simple as generating a video and calling it finished. There's still plenty of work involved in maintaining character consistency, fixing continuity issues, refining shots, editing, color grading, sound design, and making everything flow together as one cohesive film. Having a filmmaking background definitely helps because you still need to understand composition, camera movements, pacing, lighting, and storytelling. AI is a powerful tool, but it doesn't replace the creative decisions that go into making a film. This project has been a learning experience, and I've definitely run into challenges along the way. But that was the whole purpose of this experiment: to see what's possible with today's technology, a limited budget, and a short production timeline.
