Hello again folks, this time a shmup that's loved by a lot of veterans in the genre, Blue Revolver Double Action.
This is pretty much the second shmup I know with a very engaging score system, espgaluda being the first then Blue Revolver's Flourish system.
Blue Revolver's plot is that magic is rather similar to coding now, with the use of scripting and technology, reality can be bent to the user's own will, irresponsible use of this power creates "junk data" and "technicians" aka our ships have to deal with it.
A certain group of technicians called the "Blue Revolver" set on out to deal with data caused by a rather flawed magic user named Mae (who's also part of the team.)
Game has 3 modes, Normal which is for casuals, Hyper is your standard bullet hell, Parellel is the hardest difficulty and is the only way to see the games TLB.
You get about 4 shot types per character, 3 being unique and the 4th being finesse which all the ships have. You can choose between Power, Follow and Wide shot, I went with Val for this because Stasis field is the most beginner friendly shot type, faster extends and super powerful once you have absorbed a lot of bullets.
The games main gimmick is the flourish system, to flourish, you just have to get a chain level of from 1 to 8, you normally always want this on 8 for the maximum value of the gold ingots.
There's also something called zero flourish, just to keep it simple you don't activate flourish with this technique, two ways to zero flourish is one, using your special while you're not in a chain, 2nd is bombing (also works while you're still in a chain). Supposedly this thing was meant to be scrapped but Danbo decided to keep it since he thought it was neat from what I read.
Honestly though, I love the flourish system, it's easy to get into is just as fun as espgaluda. There's also the break system, you just have to pull very specific tricks for a stage to get breaks (just as an example, in stage 1's mid boss, you have to break both sides of the ship as fast as you can and you'll hear that "break" sound.) There's also a guide in the game that shows you how to get the breaks as well.
It's got good pacing, great music (I still have to listen to the original and not the DA remixes.) An engaging score system which does make hyper mode very flexible so long as you keep scoring.
Not much else to say really, it's a great shmup with a great scoring system.
I much recommend Val and Stasis field if you're going for light scoring and survival, apart from holding bullets it deals so much damage and spreads across the screen for you, it feels good to use stasis field.
If you want to see a nice commentary vid on val's stasis field then I highly recommend checking out Birb's videos on it along with his other score runs for blue revolver!

I'll get around to trying the other shot types, I'm mostly just happy with this Val clear for now.
Edit:
forgor to mention this, another unique perk stasis field has is that you still get a perfect bonus unlike the other weapons.
