He had a coffee going cold by the computer chair,
Same old stories, same old jokes, like he'd always be there.
Had a stubborn kind of heart, wouldn't bend for anyone,
If the whole damn world said stop, he'd say,
“Nah, I'm not done.”
And God, he could drive you mad,
Then make you laugh before you knew it.
Never claimed to be a saint,
But when it mattered, he'd come through it.
And I've met a lot of people,
But there'll never be another one like him.
No, there'll never be another one like him.
My Dad was a legend,
One hell of a man,
The kind you don't appreciate
Till you're wishing you still can.
And the world keeps turning
Like it doesn't understand—
That it lost a good man,
Yeah, the world lost a good man.
In that place somewhere after this,
I know he's raising hell up there,
Coffee in his hand,
That look that says he doesn't care.
My Dad was a legend,
And I'll say it while I can—
I was lucky enough to call him Dad,
One hell of a man.
He wasn't made for quiet rooms or doing what he's told,
He'd argue black was white sometimes just so you'd lose control.
But underneath the stubbornness, the temper and the pride,
Was the man you'd want beside you
When the whole damn world went sideways.
He took some hits that would've dropped
A lesser man down to his knees.
Still found a way to crack a joke,
Still worried more 'bout us than he did him.
And maybe that's what legends are—
Not perfect men from storybooks,
Just someone who leaves a hole this big
When suddenly they're gone.
My Dad was a legend,
One hell of a man,
The kind you don't appreciate
Till you're wishing you still can.
And the world keeps turning
Like it doesn't understand—
That it lost a good man,
Yeah, the world lost a good man.
In that place somewhere after this,
I know he's raising hell up there,
Coffee in his hand,
That look that says he doesn't care.
My Dad was a legend,
And I'll say it while I can—
I was lucky enough to call him Dad,
One hell of a man.
Sometimes I still reach for my phone,
Got something stupid I wanna say.
For half a second, I forget you're gone,
Then it all comes rushing back again.
And everybody tells me time
Is supposed to make this easier.
But I don't want the world to forget you, Dad,
Just because another year disappears.
So I'll tell 'em—
You were stubborn.
You were funny.
You were difficult as hell.
You were stronger than you knew you were,
And everybody knew you well.
You were ours.
You were Dad.
You were the Old Lion to the end.
And I'd give damn near anything
Just to hear your voice again.
'Cause my Dad was a legend,
One hell of a man,
And I hope he knew I loved him
Even when I never said it like I can.
Now the world keeps turning,
But I'll never understand
How it carries on so normally
After losing a good man.
Yeah, my Dad was a legend,
And that's exactly where I stand.
Not some perfect fucking hero—
Just one hell of a man.
So wherever you are, Dad,
Take it easy if you can.
The Legend,
The Old Lion.
