200,000 defenders — pirate sabres, pirate Winchesters, barbarian swordsmen and elite rangers — hold a First World War trench line against 6,000,000 zombies. Thirty to one, dug into the mud with clear fire lanes across no man's land. On paper a trench is the best thing you can have against a horde. In practice, a trench is also a hole that six million bodies can fill.
Noon over the trench line, sun and cloud above churned earth and barbed wire. Along the parapet: seventy-five thousand pirates with sabres and twenty-five thousand more with Winchester rifles, seventy-five thousand barbarian swordsmen packed into the fire bays, and twenty-five thousand elite rangers picking targets from the back line. Every rifle has a clean sweep across open ground, every sword is waiting where the ditch narrows. It is a strange garrison for a modern trench — cutlasses and lever-actions in a WW1 dugout — but the geometry works for them.
Then no man's land turns grey. Six million zombies come across it in one unbroken flood, spilling into shell craters, tangling in the wire, dropping into the forward trenches and climbing over each other to get out again. The Winchesters and rangers thin the first waves before they even reach the wire; the sabres and swords hold the fire bays where only two or three can come at once. And that works — right up until the trench stops being a barrier. Every zombie that falls into the ditch becomes a step for the next one, and a filled trench is just flat ground with defenders standing at the bottom of it.
Thirty to one, open ground in front, mud behind. The trench buys time nobody could buy standing in the open — the only question is how many minutes that geometry survives before it turns into a grave. Call the number before you watch.
