Megan prepares for her trial. Jake reassures her that the case against her is completely circumstantial and there’s no way Herb can prove she’s guilty. Matt tricks Gabrielle into coming to see him. Matt says Gabrielle needs to stop running from her feelings, but she says she doesn’t want him and tells him to stay away from her. Matt lets her go, but insists they aren’t through. Tina says since she can’t live without Cord, she needs Viki’s help to win him back. Viki says she was wrong to encourage this and it’s time Tina move on from Cord. Herb admonishes Dorian for her interview with Rod in the National Intruder where she praised Megan for killing Michael. Dorian confronts Rod but he doesn’t apologize for telling her he was writing a book and failing to mention he would also publish her remarks in the Intruder. Clint reassures Viki that Megan will be able to handle the pressure of the trial. Reporters ask if she will use her influence to help Megan, and Viki vehemently asserts she will not. Dan goes to Grandeview looking for Brenda. She tells him she saw Michael Grande last night and his specter implied she knows something about his death. She insists on going to the trial, but Dan says the stress could kill her. Herb and Troy each present their opening statements. Herb argues that the evidence will prove Megan’s guilt, while Troy counters that Megan is guilty of nothing except honesty. He further asserts the guilty party is somewhere in that very courtroom. Troy says the D.A. has said on the record he had a number of suspects; any of them could be sitting where Megan is today, and none of them have a better alibi than Megan. Troy talks through several of the potential suspects: Dorian, Brenda, Dan, Clint, Jake, and Bo.
During the recess before Herb calls his first witness, Troy is surprised that Jake supports his strategy of deflecting guilt from Megan, even if it means deflecting it towards Jake. Tina convinces Renee to host a family dinner. Asa has a few choice words for Rod Riviera. Cord returns to Llanfair where Gabrielle is playing with CJ and Al. Tina arrives and sees the four of them looking like a happy family. Herb calls Dorian to the witness stand. She recounts the conversation she overheard in the stairwell after Michael’s shooting. By Dorian’s account, neither Megan nor Jake come off looking particularly innocent. Troy cross-examines Dorian and establishes that she too hated Michael and was at the hospital for nearly an hour before the fatal shot. Troy presents evidence that Michael and Dorian had an argument at Grandeview the afternoon of his death, during which Dorian vowed to make him pay for what he had done. He paints a picture and we see the scenario he presents: Dorian at the hospital, still mad at Michael, saw Megan run out of the lounge. She heard Michael laughing inside and goes inside. In Troy’s conjecture, Dorian confronted Michael about Roger, then picked up the gun from the floor and shot Michael.
