Trekking through the vast meadows during this trek feels like walking through living paintings. It is a moderate-to-difficult 6 to 7-day expedition covering around 70-75 Kms best attempted during the Kashmir summer months i.e. July to September preferably. Key Highlights:- 1. Scenery: The route treats trekkers to 6 major Alpine Lakes—Vishansar, Krishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, Nundkol & Gangbal — along with breathtaking views of Mt. Harmukh. Apart from these, you will come across few other serene glacial lakes and cascading waterfalls during the trek which are equally beautiful. 2. Campsites: The overnight camping spots, surrounded by wildflowers and towering peaks, consistently receive top ratings from outdoor enthusiasts. 3. Safety & Permits: The trail is tightly monitored by the Indian Army, making it a very secure area for both domestic and international trekkers. Key Challenges:- 1. High Altitude Passes: First of all, it is not a beginner-friendly trek. Hikers must cross several high-altitude passes averaging 4,000 metres, with Nichnai and Gadsar Passes being the most physically exhausting. 2. Stamina Required: You will be covering distances of 10-15 KMs daily. The final descent to the road head at Naranag Village can be famously harsh on the knees. 3. Mules & Horses: If you struggle with the steep inclines, local horse and mule support can typically be hired to carry your luggage or offer a ride.
