25 Old American Tools Most Young Workers Wouldn't Recognize Today

Before power tools and modern machines transformed American work, skilled tradesmen relied on tools that most people today would barely recognize. This video explores 25 forgotten American tools used by carpenters, blacksmiths, farmers, loggers, and other workers who helped build and maintain the country. Each tool tells a story about the job it performed, the skill it demanded, and the changes that made its traditional use less common. From hand-powered woodworking tools to specialized equipment used in America's farms, workshops, and industrial trades, these objects reveal a world of work that has largely faded from everyday life. Some tools may still exist, but the trades and practical knowledge surrounding them are far less familiar today. Which of these tools have you seen before?
