Keep pests out before they settle in, from foundation to attic.
A pest problem can keep coming back even when the house gets sprayed on schedule. In Southeast homes, I have seen the same pattern plenty of times. The treatment hits what is visible, but the house still offers a way in around a pipe, under a door, through a torn screen, or behind a loose piece of trim.
This video is about the home maintenance repairs that change that picture. We start low at the foundation, then work upward through exterior doors, windows, siding, rooflines, vents, and the damp spaces pests favor. You do not need to turn your home into an airtight box. In fact, some openings need to keep moving air. The important part is knowing which gaps should be sealed, which need mesh, and which moisture problems are quietly keeping the house inviting.
Here is what I put under the flashlight in this walkthrough:
1. Foundation cracks and loose mortar
2. Gaps around outdoor faucets, wires, and dryer vents
3. Door sweeps and worn weather stripping
4. The daylight gap below a garage door
5. Window-screen tears and failed exterior caulk
6. Fascia, siding, flashing, and lifted roof materials
7. Crawl-space, attic, and roof vents that need metal mesh
8. Open chimneys and missing caps
9. Downspouts, damp crawl spaces, and poor ventilation
One important limit: sealing entry points reduces access, but it does not replace professional help for a serious infestation, electrical damage, bed bugs, or wildlife already trapped inside a wall or attic.
What kind of foundation does your home have, block, brick, or poured concrete, and what state are you in?
