This release transmutes the listener into a cybernetically enhanced denizen of a futuristic dystopia, where they have jacked into a maintenance terminal. "Ephemeral Port" is the auditory exploration of the user receiving an update for their cyberware. The album is an immersive journey into the esoteric sound of numinous artificial spaces, dismantling & rebuilding virtual infrastructure, and the dreams of machines. + + + Nimble fingers pinch the azure sheathing around the Mainlink cable. A blur of motion raises it to the access port in the nape. As the elongated prong slides in, a trio of worn steel hooks hinge down and anchor into the bare flesh that edges against the circumference of the jack. A momentary bite of pain precedes the click. Three-way handshake initiates, then the protocols resolve. Connection Established. The waking world is subsumed by the black Nothingness. Meanwhile, the terminal pulls a compatible upgrade package from the annals of it's databank. The system drops it onto the wire, breaks it into digestible pieces, then pushes it across. The package presents the proper encryption key and passes through the neural gateway. The environment is birthed beneath the corporeal- a locus permeated by the resplendent geometry of digital megastructures. The package arrives at the root where it is recombined, then the code erupts as myriad spiraling arms, each set upon a prescribed task. The environment is full of wounds- blocks of syntax that are outdated, volatile, damaged. Fragments of new code park aside these lacerations and reconfigure themselves into nanoscaffolding. The Outer Shell is persuaded to recede, leaving the intrinsic code exposed. That which is degraded or inoperable is destroyed, leaving a clean slate on which to rebuild. Bytes are transferred and exchanged, then interwoven into the existing grand lattice. The instabilities are soothed, errant functionality quelled. The overarching system receives the status ping.
