Sometimes grief begins long before we say goodbye. And sometimes, even years after losing someone we love, there are parts of our hearts still waiting to heal. In this deeply moving testimony, Carrie shares the story of her husband, her best friend and the love of her life. After a spinal cord injury left him paralyzed at just 21 years old, Carrie spent their marriage not only as his wife but also as his primary caregiver. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and family. When her husband unexpectedly passed away following a medical procedure, Carrie's world was forever changed. At just 41 years old, she found herself navigating overwhelming grief while raising their son, without knowing other widows who truly understood her experience. Years later, Carrie discovered Healing at the Well, where she found an immediate connection with women who shared the unique journey of widowhood. Through weekly Coffee & Conversations, grief workshops, Bible studies, and meaningful friendships, Carrie found more than community. She discovered that there was still grief she hadn't fully processed, not only from losing her husband, but also from the many years she had spent as his caregiver. After eight and a half years of widowhood, Carrie shares that much of her healing has happened since becoming part of Healing at the Well. Her story is a beautiful reminder that grief has no timeline, caregiving carries its own unseen burdens, and it's never too late to experience deeper healing. Carrie offers a heartfelt encouragement to other widows who may be hesitant to seek support: walking through the door for the first time can be difficult, but there is incredible strength in finding women who understand your grief without needing an explanation. We are deeply grateful to Carrie for sharing her story with such vulnerability, faith, and courage. At Healing at the Well, we provide free professional grief counseling, weekly Coffee & Conversations, grief workshops, and compassionate community for widows and their children. No widow or her children should walk through grief alone.
