The Kevin Paul Show | Ep. 196 France has a long history of romanticising revolution, and its latest student protests reveal how deeply that tradition continues to influence political activism. What begins as a protest over education soon becomes a spectacle of revolutionary slogans, ideological posturing and hostility towards established institutions. The student uprising of May 1968 challenged Charles de Gaulle's government and left a lasting mark on French political culture. Among those who witnessed the unrest was the British philosopher Roger Scruton, whose experience in Paris helped shape his conservative philosophy. From G. K. Chesterton's defence of order to Scruton's criticism of revolutionary romanticism, the fundamental question remains whether those who celebrate the destruction of institutions understand what it takes to build and preserve a civilisation.
