We wanted to visit Vejle, a charming city in the south of Denmark, for a one day trip.
We took a bus from Billund and arrived in Vejle in the morning. We walked from the bus station to the city center, where we saw some of the landmarks, such as the Vejle Town Hall, which is a modern building with a distinctive wave-shaped roof, and the Vejle Windmill, which is a former windmill from the 19th century that now houses the Vejle Art Museum.
We decided not to go into the museums, but to enjoy the city’s atmosphere and architecture. We walked along the Vejle Fjord, which is a narrow inlet of the sea that surrounds the city. We saw some of the boats and yachts that were docked at the harbor, and some of the birds and fish that were swimming in the water. We also saw some of the bridges that cross over the fjord, such as the Vejle Ådal Bridge, which is a pedestrian bridge that spans over the river valley.
We were hungry and thirsty, so we looked for some street food stalls to taste some delicious Danish cuisine. We found a variety of options, such as pølse (hot dogs), flæskestegssandwich (roast pork sandwich), æbleskiver (apple pancakes), and gløgg (mulled wine). We tried some of each and enjoyed them very much. We also chatted with some of the locals who were friendly and helpful.
We continued our walk along the fjord and reached our main destination: the wave building.
The wave building is a residential complex that consists of five curved towers that resemble waves. The building is an architectural masterpiece that has won several awards and has been featured in many magazines and documentaries. The building is also environmentally friendly, as it uses solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and natural ventilation.
We were amazed by the beauty and innovation of the wave building. We took some pictures and videos to capture our memories. We also learned that the building offers guided tours for visitors who want to see the interior and learn more about its design and features. However, we decided not to join the tour, as we wanted to save some time for other activities.
We had some time left before our bus back to Billund, so we decided to relax at one of the parks in Vejle. We chose Byparken, which is a park near the city center that has a lake, a fountain, a playground, and some sculptures.
We had a wonderful day in Vejle and we returned to our bus station with a smile on our faces.
