Tenchu Stealth Assassins Rikimaru Grand Master Stealth Difficulty - Normal mode It's a fresh NG run on Normal w base items usage only even if I unlock GM items as I get those ranks per mission in succession. The Gameplay was done & recorded via Duckstation emulation My thoughts:- Something little different than my usual beating/slashing em up action. Tenchu is a part of the '98's class of Stealth' trio which also includes Metal Gear Solid & Thief: The Dark Project. Those 3 stealth titles released so closely to one another in 1998 heavily influenced & shaped the stealth genre to come afterwards. MGS skyrocketing itself in terms of fame & popularity of it's unique cinematic focused experience w strong themes and messages of anti war, determinism vs free will & the horrors of WMDs. Thief solidifies itself as a highly ahead of it's time first person sneaker subversion of the FPS genre boom at the time in PC gaming w emphasis on both visual & audio feedback to the player to the point that it spawned a sub genre within the stealth genre in 'Light & Shadow' based stealth. Then there's Tenchu which was the first of the 3 to be released in that year of 1998. Unlike MGS, Tenchu wasn't trying to mostly translating ideas to 3D from an existing Metal Gear game prior. Also unlike Thief which is well trying to be an immersive sim type of game before that label was even a thing and Thief also having it's roots or influence taken more from a Dungeons and Dragon's fantastical understanding of a Thief/Rogue type character. Tenchu goes for a more grounded approach while trying to be realistic in it's abstract attempt at capturing a Ninja's experience w a mission based structure and line of sight stealth system however, Tenchu also has emphasis on Verticality which makes it quite interesting from get go. Tenchu has Tank Controls i.e. very similar to Tomb Raider which is a precision platforming game and that while does make sense as ninjas are precise on the mark but they are also supposed to be highly agile and fast.. which is difficult to convey via Tank controls. This leads to Tenchu leaning more into being a slow paced methodical sneaker type game ... on the surface as once a player is able to get a good feel on the controls then the overall game pacing can be pretty damn fast. Still those Tank Controls are gonna be a hiccup for most players nowadays. There's other problems as well but I'll talk about em more as we go on. Overall though, Tenchu's really a great starting point and damn that music is so good. There were some points of frustrations for me but I never thought a stealth game w Tank controls could even work this well. ~ Time Stamps ~ 00:00 Opening FMV 02:01 Cutscene 01 (Training brief) 02:19 Training 04:28 Training Results 04:38 Cutscene 02 (Mission 01 brief) 05:25 M01: Punish the Evil Merchant 07:03 Cutscene 03 (Echigoya's bad roll on charisma) 07:35 Boss Fight w Hanbe 07:50 Cutscene 04 (he can hide but won't outrun) 07:57 M01 resumes 08:43 Cutscene 05 (no more hiding) 08:54 Boss Fight w Echigoya 09:09 Cutscene 06 (sickening greed everwhere man) 09:23 M01 Results 09:33 Cutscene 07 (Mission 02 brief + intro) 10:14 M02: Deliver the Secret Message 12:57 Cutscene 08 (No!
