Lago Maggiore & Lake Orta 🇮🇹 | Italy's Most Underrated Lakes?

Everyone talks about Lake Como… but are Lago Maggiore and Lake Orta two of Italy’s best-kept secrets? 🇮🇹 In this episode of Craving the Adventure, we leave the spectacular San Bernardino Pass behind and cross into Italy for a few unforgettable days exploring the beautiful lakes of northern Italy. Our first stop is Stresa on Lago Maggiore, where we stay at the magnificent and historic Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées, a hotel with more than 160 years of history and a fascinating connection to Ernest Hemingway. From Stresa, we take to the water for a visit to the breathtaking Isola Bella, home to Palazzo Borromeo and its spectacular terraced gardens, before spending time soaking up the atmosphere, scenery and elegance of Lago Maggiore. But before continuing our road trip south, we make one final stop at beautiful Lake Orta. With only a few hours to explore, we wander the charming streets of Orta San Giulio, enjoy a drink in Piazza Motta and discover a much smaller and quieter side of Italy’s famous lake region. Lago Maggiore and Lake Orta gave us two completely different experiences — and we loved them both.
