The Ronald is the result of my love for the way the Roland Space Echo sounds when the pre-amp is saturated. Having owned many Space Echos over the years, I had grown tired of constantly scrambling to repair the fragile and now very valuable unit on tour, but I wasn't ready to sacrifice the sound, which had become integral to the rich, full bodied and sparkling tone that this pre-amp provides. In my pursuit of this sound in a more reliable form, I decided to study and painstakingly recreate the pre-amp based on the original service notes of the Roland RE-150 space echo, the result of which can be found here in the Ronald. To take things a bit further, I added a switchable JFET clean boost to the circuit to drive the pre-amp harder, getting more gain and volume from the unit should you decide to use it either as a full-on overdrive pedal or simply use the pre-amp to enhance just about everything you send to it. I love the way this sounds and I am thrilled to be able to share it with other players who find it unreasonable to tour with an original Roland Space Echo, but want to achieve the gorgeous sound that the pre-amp produces. For this demonstration, I used an old silverface Fender Twin Reverb, everything set to 5 (volume at 2), a Fender Jaguar guitar and an SM57 microphone. To purchase: mileendeffects.org
