If you already KNOW your parents or guardians aren’t supportive of your gayness, sometimes the wisest move is to wait until you have the means to stand on your own. Not because you’re ashamed, but because your peace matters. I talk about what happens AFTER you come out. The tension. The grief. The expectation shift. Because whether people admit it or not, they had a version of your future in their minds. When you reveal your truth, some of them aren’t just reacting to “gay”. They’re reacting to the death of an expectation they were attached to. I’m not excusing abuse or anything of that nature. I’m not telling anyone to stay in toxic situations. I’m talking about the people who are TRYING, but they’re clumsy with it.
