Why Jesus Called Peter "Satan": The 5 Verses Most People Miss Peter makes the greatest confession in the New Testament, correctly identifying Jesus as the Christ, but just five verses later, he receives the harshest rebuke in the entire Bible. Jesus looks at the man he just named the foundation of the church and calls him Satan. Why did this spiritual high point turn into a severe theological collision so quickly? The answer lies in the ancient pagan city of Caesarea Philippi, the brutal reality of Roman occupation, and a dangerous misunderstanding of what the word "Messiah" actually meant to a first-century Jew. Jesus and Peter were using the exact same title, but they had completely different dictionaries. 📖 What You'll Discover in This Study: • The dark geopolitical history of Caesarea Philippi and why Jesus chose it for his most dangerous question. • What the title "Messiah" actually meant to Peter and the Jewish people living under Roman occupation. • Why Peter’s attempt to protect Jesus was actually a lethal theological trap. • The profound difference between a conquering warrior-king and a suffering servant. ✨ Why This Matters: • It exposes the danger of building a version of Jesus that only serves our comfort and political expectations. • It reveals why the cross wasn't a tragic failure of the mission, but the exact mechanism of salvation. • It challenges us to follow a Savior who demands sacrifice rather than one who merely promises earthly victory. Watch the full study to uncover the historical and cultural context behind this shocking confrontation.
