Farm Loan Waiver 2026 is becoming a major issue in Karnataka as farmers continue to seek relief amid drought-related concerns. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said in July that the government would examine the question of agricultural loan waiver and assess which loans could be waived and how such a scheme could be implemented. More recently, in September 2026, Shivakumar said Karnataka would take an all-party delegation to New Delhi to seek drought relief from the Union Government and facilitate a farm loan waiver. The history of Farm Loan Waiver in Karnataka provides an important comparison. In 2017, the Siddaramaiah government announced a waiver of cooperative-bank crop loans up to ₹50,000, covering 22,27,506 farmers with a reported cost of ₹8,165 crore. In 2018, H.D. Kumaraswamy announced a larger farm-loan waiver scheme with an overall estimated burden of ₹34,000 crore, covering eligible loans up to ₹2 lakh. ಈಗ ರೈತರಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಾಲಮನ್ನಾ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿದೆ. ₹25,000 ಅಥವಾ ₹50,000ವರೆಗೆ ಸಾಲಮನ್ನಾ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಹೊರೆ ಬೀಳಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರವೂ ಚರ್ಚೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ₹5 ಲಕ್ಷ ಸಾಲಮನ್ನಾ ಅಥವಾ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಮೊತ್ತದ ಹೊಸ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಸದ್ಯ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ.
