My Fair Lady of the Lake – A Short Film

3 young squires set out to find the Lady of the Lake, who they've heard will give a free sword to a worthy man. Directed and Written by Jackson Mulkey Cinematography by Daniel Salyers Starring Ryan Cullom, Adam Grice, & Robert King and Collin Woodrum, Wesley Bullington, Jonathan Emerson, Daniel Salyers, and Jackson Mulkey. I made this film in response to a season of creative burnout and fear of failure. I set out to make a fun, low-stakes project: in a short amount of time and without putting too much pressure on myself. I gave myself a few weeks to write a script, assembled a group of friends, and filmed this project in one day, back in February of this year. Many things went wrong; we had to change multiple cast members' roles last minute, cut several scenes, lost 80% of our sound recordings, and leaned heavily on improv and quick shooting, but the final product is still something I'm very proud of. This was so much fun to make. I leaned into AI to enhance the in-camera dialogue into something usable, but used it nowhere else. The hand drawn illustrations at the beginning of the film were made by me, sketched on paper and drawn digitally on an iPad. I was inspired to write this story as I was reading Steinbeck's adaptation of the King Arthur legend, The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights. We also obviously took inspiration from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and others like it. On a more serious note, this film is hopefully meant to get you thinking about what true manhood is, and certainly what it is not. I hope it gives you some laughs and provokes some thoughts. Should we make a sequel? :)
