The Gama Mini is a pocket Hercules. It has all the characters of typical Gama superstars like the Gama Jumbo and the Gama Masterpiece for example, at a fraction of their size without compromising the ability to write miles without even the hint of a murmur.
I got the pen when I last went to Chennai to pay my respects to Pratap Kumar, the ever affable and undisputed Mutalāḷi (boss) of the fountain pen community.
This is typically old school - is a full-bodied ebonite, hand-turned, eye dropper filler, fitted with a gold nib. The pen looks good and writes great, the nib softly yielding to the pressure to transfer the ink onto the paper, crystallizing one's thoughts for eternity.
For its smallish size, the pen holds a large amount of ink and can be the perfect companion, when carried either clipped to the shirt pocket or in a lady's purse. In terms of built quality, it is as good as any other Gama pen, and in terms of its feel and weight, it is perfect, especially for smaller grips. I despite my apparent obsession with big, bulky pens, actually love writing with this one, which somehow reminds me of Sunil Gavaskar.
Gama, situated bang opposite the Chennai High Court has been catering to the big and mighty not only from the legal profession, but all walks of society. Successive Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu have blessed the institution - both Karunanidhi ji and Stalin ji, being fountain pen users, have honored Gama with their patronage.
Pratap Kumar, the man at the helm, is old-school and was one of the few who had not abandoned ship when the fountain pen was given up for dead not so long ago. He had stuck on, continuing to trudge the way his forefathers had - and is still one of the very few who make their pens as was the tradition in days of yore - no-nonsense, value for money, work horses!
I have many stories about Gama pens in my blog: www.inkedhappiness.com if you are interested.
