❤️ FROM THE WRITER’S HEART ❤️
“CALL ME AGAIN”
Written by: Sammy Lee Lykens
There is something deeply personal about this song that reaches far beyond an ordinary telephone call. As I thought about how often we hear from family, friends, and loved ones throughout our day, my heart began to consider a much more important question: When was the last time we truly stopped to listen for the voice of Jesus?
We make time for conversations with people who matter to us. We return calls, share our troubles, exchange a few words of encouragement, and promise to talk again. Yet, somewhere along the way, life's responsibilities, disappointments, distractions, and daily routines can gradually take our attention away from the One who matters most.
It breaks my heart to think of someone who once prayed with deep sincerity, found comfort in the pages of God's Word, and looked forward to gathering with fellow believers, only to discover that their spiritual life has slowly grown cold. Sometimes, there is no great rebellion or dramatic turning point. There is simply a little less prayer, a little less time in His presence, and a heart that begins to drift without realizing how far it has traveled.
That is the burden behind “Call Me Again.”
When I wrote these words, I wanted to give a voice to the soul that recognizes its need to return to Jesus. I wanted the listener to feel the ache of neglected fellowship, the conviction of a wandering heart, and the overwhelming comfort of knowing that God's mercy is greater than our failures.
This song is not about a Savior who has stopped loving us. It is about our need to awaken, turn our hearts toward Him, and seek the closeness we were never meant to live without. No matter how far we may have wandered, we can still come before Him in repentance, asking Him to renew our faith and restore our desire for His presence.
My prayer is that these lyrics will cause someone to pause, lay aside the distractions of this world, and examine their relationship with the Lord. Perhaps someone listening has not prayed in a long time. Perhaps another has quietly stopped attending church or opening their Bible. Maybe there is a precious soul who still believes, but desperately needs the fire of faith rekindled.
If this song reaches even one heart and inspires that person to whisper, “Lord Jesus, I need You. Please draw me close again,” then every word will have been worth writing.
As a songwriter, I believe some songs are meant not merely to be heard, but to become prayers rising from the deepest places within us. “Call Me Again” is my heartfelt plea for every soul that has drifted to listen once more for the voice of the Savior.
May we never become so occupied with answering the calls of this world that we forget to make time for Jesus. May we never allow our hearts to grow so distant that we no longer recognize the sweetness of His presence.
And may each of us have a heart that longs to hear Him calling our name.
With love, prayer, and a songwriter's heart,
