I Entered Musa Sheytan, a Kurdish Village… and Strangers Invited Me In

I’m BARITO, and this time I entered Musa Sheytan, a hidden Kurdish village — where one unexpected invitation after another opened the doors to the everyday life of its people. What started as a simple walk through the village turned into a day of wood-fired tea, warm conversations, village work, local music, and small acts of kindness that made Musa Sheytan unforgettable. ──────────────────────── I arrived at Musa Sheytan village near Baneh, Kurdistan, with no idea who I would meet or where the journey would take me. My first stop was a beautiful village home, where I met a local couple who welcomed me into their courtyard. Beneath a simple shelter surrounded by grapevines, they prepared tea for me using a traditional wood-fired samovar. We sat together, drank tea, and shared one of those quiet moments that make village journeys so special. As I continued walking through Musa Sheytan, I came across everyday scenes of village life — a woman washing the entrance of her home with water, and a young boy inside a cowshed carefully cleaning the space for the cattle. Later, another family invited me into their home. Their courtyard had several animal shelters, and once again I was welcomed with the kind of hospitality that seemed to follow me everywhere in this village. I also visited another home, where I met a man with limited mobility and his family. They welcomed me warmly, and before I left, one of the villagers sang a beautiful local Kurdish song for me. At the edge of the village, I noticed one final detail that stayed with me: a flask of drinking water had been left beside the road so passing travelers could stop and have a drink. Sometimes the strongest memories from a journey are not famous places or spectacular views — but simple acts of kindness from people you have never met before. No script. No staged scenes.
