Explore how phased arrays enable integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems to communicate with and localize users by using shared spectrum, waveforms, and hardware.
This communication-centric ISAC workflow in MATLAB® models a MIMO-OFDM link with a phased-array transmitter and receiver in a multipath environment. Channel estimates derived from OFDM pilot signals are used to compute precoding and combining weights, establish the communications link, and evaluate performance using bit error rate and a constellation diagram.
The same channel estimates are then collected over time for sensing. The workflow suppresses static clutter, estimates range from the OFDM waveform, and estimates direction of arrival with the phased array. Combining these measurements produces a position heatmap that localizes three moving users in the modeled environment.
