How to add an external footswitch to the BOSS GT-1000 CORE — the cable you need, where it plugs in, the BOSS quirk that puts your switches on the wrong controls, and how to reassign them to anything you like. Chapters below 👇 🎸 GO DEEPER - BOSS GT-1000 CORE Ultimate Guide (full course): https://www.benrowlandsmusic.com/prod... 👉 Buy the BOSS FS-7 Dual Footswitch from Thomann here: https://clickfi.re/sdM5hbaJ 👉 Or the BOSS FS-6: https://clickfi.re/njptepbx 👉 Balanced TRS cable (you need this, not a guitar lead): https://clickfi.re/eUTzRQNv ⚡ YOU DON'T NEED TO POWER IT. Running an FS-7 as a plain dual footswitch for patch up and down works fine unpowered which frees up a 9V output on your board for something that actually needs it. You only need power for the LEDs. THE CABLE A balanced TRS cable, not a standard guitar lead. Easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the plug: a TRS cable has two black bands and three metal sections, so it can carry a separate signal for each of the two switches. A guitar lead has one black band and two sections, and only one switch will ever respond. WHERE IT PLUGS IN The GT-1000 CORE gives you two sockets, and you can use both: • Rear panel - CTL 2, 3 / EXP 1 • Side panel - CTL 4, 5 / EXP 2 So a dual footswitch in one and an expression pedal in the other is a perfectly good rig. OUT OF THE BOX Plug it in and it already works: switch A steps your patch up, switch B steps it down. That alone is worth doing, because it frees the three switches on the CORE itself for stompbox-style effect toggling instead of patch changing. THE QUIRK: THE LABELS ARE INVERTED When you go to reassign them, BOSS have the numbering backwards. Footswitch A is CTL 3. Footswitch B is CTL 2. Map them the way you'd assume and everything lands on the wrong switch this catches everyone. REASSIGNING THEM Menu → Control/Assign. Control Function is the simple list; Assign Setting is the deeper matrix if you want conditional mappings. Scroll to CTL 2–5 and set three things: • FUNCTION — what the switch does. In the video I move switch A off Patch Up and onto the Tuner • MODE — Toggle latches like a light switch, press on and press off. Momentary only holds while your foot is down, which is what you want for a tuner or a temporary boost • PREFERENCE — whether the assignment is global across every patch or saved per patch If your switches behave oddly after all that, check the small mode and polarity switches on the underside of the footswitch itself this video doesn't cover those, and they're the usual culprit. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 - Intro 0:23 - The BOSS FS-7 (And The FS-6) 0:37 - The Cable You Need 1:15 - Where To Plug It In 1:44 - What It Does Out Of The Box 2:21 - Finding The Control Settings 3:57 - The Quirk: Switch A Is CTL 3 4:40 - Reassigning A Switch, Toggle vs Momentary 5:34 - Wrap-Up 📚 MORE BOSS GT-1000 CORE TUTORIALS BOSS GT-1000 CORE Expression Pedal Setup:    • BOSS GT-1000 CORE External Expression Peda...   BOSS GT-1000 CORE Walkthrough And Setup:    • BOSS GT-1000 CORE Walkthrough And Setup - ...   10 BOSS GT-1000 CORE Features You Need To Know:    • 10 BOSS GT-1000 CORE Features You Need To ...   🔔 Subscribe for gear tutorials, guitar tech breakdowns and live performance setups:    / @benrowlandsmusic   Some links above are affiliate links.
